Delhi University Introduces New AI and Data Science Programs for 2025 Academic Year

Delhi University has announced the introduction of cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence and Data Science programs starting from the 2025 academic session. The new courses are designed to meet the growing demand for skilled professionals in these rapidly evolving fields and will be offered at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The university will launch a Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence, a Bachelor of Science in Data Science, and corresponding Master’s programs. These programs have been developed in collaboration with industry leaders and will include practical training components to ensure graduates are job-ready.

Curriculum and Specializations

The B.Sc. in Artificial Intelligence will cover fundamental topics including machine learning, neural networks, natural language processing, and computer vision. Students will have the opportunity to specialize in areas such as robotics, autonomous systems, or AI ethics in their final year.

The Data Science program will focus on statistical analysis, data mining, big data technologies, and data visualization. Both programs will include mandatory internships with partner companies during the summer breaks to provide real-world experience.

Key Program Features:

  • Industry-aligned curriculum developed with tech companies
  • State-of-the-art AI and data science labs
  • Mandatory industry internships
  • Dedicated career placement support
  • Option for dual degrees with international universities

Admission Process and Eligibility

Admissions to the new programs will be based on a combination of academic performance in Class 12 (with Mathematics as a compulsory subject) and scores in a newly introduced aptitude test focused on logical reasoning and quantitative skills. The university will reserve 30% of seats for female candidates to promote gender diversity in tech fields.

The application process will begin on June 1, 2025, with the first batch of students commencing their studies in August 2025. The university expects high demand for these programs and is preparing for an intake of 200 students across the two undergraduate programs in the first year.

Future Prospects and Industry Response

Industry leaders have welcomed the introduction of these programs, noting the significant skills gap in AI and data science domains. Several companies have already expressed interest in partnering with the university for research projects and campus recruitment.

According to employment projections, graduates from these programs can expect starting salaries 25-40% higher than traditional science graduates, reflecting the high demand for these specialized skills in the job market.

Education Analyst’s Perspective: Delhi University’s forward-thinking approach in introducing these programs positions it as a leader in technology education and will help address the critical shortage of AI and data science talent in India.
